MARK SURRIDGE

The view of Earth from Space changes the appearance of familiar objects and places - objects and places no longer look the same, they become a series of shapes, colours and patterns, in essence these images from space, satellite and drone become abstractions. These abstractions are often beautiful but belie the true content of the image. Earth from Space can identify illegal deforestation, pollution and human developments such as vast oil refineries. In my work I am exploring the view point from above and how I can use the artifice to alter our visual perception.

I value the environment, I am concerned about how this period of dominant geological Anthropocene is destroying the planet. In these difficult times the  Olive Network creates a platform for individuals and groups -emphasising solutions rather than news feeds of negative passivity.

Mark Surridge was born in 1963 and is an abstract artist based in Cornwall. His distinctive and individual work has been in numerous solo and mixed exhibitions, nationally and internationally as well as art fairs and open competitions.
